How do I store cable ties correctly?
To ensure that you can use the cable ties for a long time, pay attention to a few details when storing them, especially when it comes to plastic cable ties.

Plastic cable ties
The majority of cable ties in our qbendo assortment are made of polyamide PA6.6, also known as nylon. This material is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs water from the air and releases it. Cable ties typically have a water content of about 2.5 %. Excessive cold or heat can affect the water content and damage the material. For optimal storage, the storage temperature, humidity and environment must therefore be taken into account.Set the correct storage temperature
The optimum storage temperature for cable ties made of plastic is 15 – 30 °C, which is equivalent to a standard indoor climate. Additionally, a humidity of 30 – 70 % is ideal for storing plastic cable ties. If the storage location is extremely cold, let the cable ties warm to room temperature before use.Important to note: Avoid storage locations where the temperature is constantly changing.
Constant fluctuations between excessive heat and low temperatures affect the structure of the plastic.
As a result, the plastic cable ties will become brittle and difficult to work with.
Do not expose cable ties to direct heat sources
The material polyamide PA 6.6 releases water in dry and warm air. Therefore, do not store plastic cable ties next to heat sources such as heaters or radiators. Heat changes the moisture content of polyamide cable ties. This leads to material weakness, as the cable ties will dry out and become brittle. For information on the temperature resistance of cable ties, please refer to our FAQ page about temperature resistance.
Avoid direct UV radiation
Do not store plastic cable ties in direct sunlight. When exposed to UV radiation, they will dry out and become brittle. This also applies to black-coloured and UV-resistant cable ties, though they can withstand UV radiation for longer thanks to their composition.Learn more on our FAQ page about UV resistance.
Use opened packs quickly
Sealed packaging maintains the water content in the plastic cable ties. Thus, make sure that you only keep closed, sealed packs in your warehouse. Opened packs should be resealed immediately after removing a cable tie. Once a pack of cable ties stays open for a longer period, the water content of the plastic cable ties begins to change. Therefore, we recommend using cable ties from opened packs as soon as possible. If you find an opened pack of standard cable ties in storage, add a few drops of water before sealing it. The plastic cable ties will absorb the water, and the water content will regulate itself.
Stainless steel cable ties
Stainless steel cable ties are not as susceptible as cable ties made of plastic.
Since they are resistant to corrosion and rust, cable ties made of metal
can be stored (almost) anywhere.
